DBU-2328 IP, Modernizing Legacy Serial Infrastructure for Mission-Critical Networks
The DBU-2328 IP modernizes legacy RS-232 infrastructure by consolidating four separate hardware devices into a single, high-reliability appliance. Purpose-built for 911 and Next Generation 911 (NG911) environments, it provides secure Serial-over-IP connectivity with automatic dual-server redundancy to ensure continuous operation when every second matters.
Traditional redundant serial architectures typically require two IP-to-Serial adapters—one for the primary server and one for the standby server—along with a dedicated RS-232 Data Sharing Unit and an RS-232 Broadcast Unit. The DBU-2328 IP integrates all four functions into a single 1U rack-mounted platform, dramatically simplifying installation while reducing rack space, power consumption, cabling, and overall system complexity.
Featuring dual 10/100 Ethernet input interfaces, industry-standard RFC 2217 Virtual COM Port technology, and eight independent RS-232 output ports, the DBU-2328 IP seamlessly bridges legacy serial devices to redundant IP network servers without requiring changes to existing application software.
Designed for high availability, the unit employs hardware-based RTS/CTS arbitration to automatically manage active and standby server connections. If the primary server becomes unavailable, communications are automatically transferred to the standby server without operator intervention, providing a transparent migration path from legacy serial architectures to today's IP-based mission-critical networks.
